Frustrated by the lack of modern health and fitness resources available to pelvic pain sufferers, occupational therapist and certified pilates instructor, Jennifer Lelwica Buttaccio decided to take matters into her own hands. In February of 2008, the first carefully choreographed Pilates-inspired workout DVD for people with pelvic pain was released. Jenny’s desire is to inspire people to maintain an active lifestyle even in the midst of health struggles. She seeks to educate people that with careful instruction and specific modifications even pilates can be permissible among pelvic pain sufferers. Thus, New Dawn Pilates was born! Strenuous, high-intensity movements and prolonged inter-abdominal pressure often characteristic of traditional exercise can exacerbate symptoms of pelvic pain. In contrast, New Dawn Pilates incorporates principles of concentration, flow, breath and utilizing proper body mechanics to achieve a total body workout through low impact movements. Special attention was given to provide support to the muscles of the pelvis during the exercises. Also, intermittent stretches are located throughout the exercise sequences to release muscle tension accumulated in the pelvic floor and abdominal muscles.
