Yin Yoga near You!

If you live near Cleveland in the Redlands, and are looking for a slower paced, therapeutic style of yoga - Yin Yoga at New Dawn could be just the ticket to better wellbeing for you!

Yin Yoga involves a series of slow, long holds and mat-based postures that stretch out the body's deeper connective tissues.

Unlike other forms of yoga, there are no dynamic movements and rarely any standing poses. We will instruct you to relax into each pose during the class, so that your body is able to soften and release naturally without pushing or straining. The key to perfecting Yin Yoga is to find complete stillness in each pose.

The Origins of Yin Yoga

The practice of Yin Yoga is based on ancient Chinese philosophies and Taoist principles, which believe there are pathways of Qi (energy) that run through our bodies. Stretching and deepening into poses allows you to open up any blockages and release your energy to flow freely.

Numerous techniques in yin yoga have been practiced for centuries in China and Taiwan and were taught by Taoist priests to Kung Fu practitioners around 2000 years ago.

What to Expect …

During a yin class at our Cleveland yoga studio, you will hold each pose between three to five minutes (in some cases longer). These passive floor poses will mainly work the lower part of your body - hips, pelvis, inner thighs and lower spine. The class will commence with one of our experienced instructors guiding you through meditation, breathing techniques or reflection. Our studio will supply various equipment such as blocks, straps, blankets and towels to assist with poses.

The Benefits of Yin Yoga

Like all forms of yoga, Yin Yoga has many incredible benefits for both the body and mind.

In the fast-paced world we live in today, we often forget to slow down and take time out for ourselves. The yin practice forces us to pause and be present. When you focus on the “here and now” during a yin class, you will find all deadlines, commitments, to-do lists and racing thoughts move into the back of your mind, giving you much needed space for rest and renewal.

Other benefits of yin yoga include:

  • Calming the mind

  • Reducing stress and anxiety

  • Increasing mental resilience and focus

  • Improving flexibility

  • Revitalising the tissues of the body

  • Helping to balance the nervous system

  • Improving blood circulation
