Slow Mindful Yoga

What is Slow Mindful Yoga?

Find your inner calm at one of our slow and mindful yoga sessions!

This yoga style helps to “restore” and reset your body’s parasympathetic nervous system which, in turn, will help you to relax, rest, and heal.

Recovery has always been built into yoga through various poses. B.K.S. Iyengar, considered by many to be the father of modern yoga practice, was the first to systematically develop restorative sequences specifically to help people struggling with injury, illness, and stress.

Restorative Yoga

In Slow Mindful Yoga, the pace is even slower than during our yin yoga sessions.

Unlike other forms of yoga, poses are held much longer - for between 5 to 20 minutes, to allow you to really relax into them. Our experienced and supportive instructors speak less than they would in a regular class, and they may introduce gentle sounds.

As you focus on your breathing in this still, quiet environment, you are able to move through your mind's initial resistance into meditation and a deeper, calmer state of being.

A key feature of this restorative yoga style is the use of props such as blocks, bolsters, and blankets. These props help you to feel comfortable so you can hold passive poses for longer, without exerting or tiring out your muscles.

A slow mindful yoga class at our Cleveland studio is a great way to develop your inner awareness, and to experience a deep level of letting go.

Benefits of Slow Mindful Yoga

This is the exact opposite of the mantra “no pain no gain”!

Relaxing it might be, but slow mindful yoga still offers a host of powerful benefits, including:

  • Soothing the nervous system

  • Reducing blood pressure

  • Calming the mind

  • Elevating mood and sense of wellbeing

  • Improving sleep quality

  • Boosting the immune system

Soothing and gentle, slow mindful yoga is suitable for beginner to advanced yoga enthusiasts. It is also highly recommended for people suffering from chronic illness and pain, or recovering from an injury; and it is safe to practice during pregnancy.
