Vinyasa Yoga

Get Ready for a Workout!

Are you looking for a yoga class to burn through maximum calories and increase your fitness levels?

We offer a couple of different styles of yoga at our Redlands pilates and yoga studio; Vinyasa is a free-flowing yoga style, with each movement synchronised to a breath.

Your breath is the focus, acting as an anchor as you move from one pose to the next. Also referred to as Power Yoga, vinyasa can be practised at any level, tempo or temperature.

The word “vinyasa” refers to the series of movements that are done between each asana (pose), so as you move from one pose to the next, you will have completed one “vinyasa.”

The Origins of Vinyasa Yoga

The origins of Vinyasa Yoga can be tracked way back to 200 BC.

During this time, Patanjali began developing his ashta-ang, or eight-limbed disciplines that involve meditation, mental, and physical conditioning. Since then, many of these techniques have been refined to combine more movement with breath work.

What to expect …

When you join a vinyasa class at our Cleveland pilates and yoga studio, you will be guided through a range of standing, seated and supine poses, twists, balancing postures, forward folds, inversion, back bends and targeted core strengthening.

Expect to work up a sweat as you stretch the muscles of your body, while at the same time the movements will soothe and calm your busy mind. Our instructors will encourage you to be aware of each movement, breath, sensation, thought and feeling.

Is Vinyasa Yoga suitable for beginners?

As vinyasa moves a little faster than other forms of yoga, it’s probably a good idea to have some previous experience with yoga before taking a vinyasa class.

We recommend completing our introduction to meditation and yoga class prior to taking vinyasa class, if you are new to yoga. Our introductory class will help you become familiar with posture and alignment in each of the different poses, so when you’re ready to move onto to a vinyasa class, you can moving smoothly through the sequence while focusing on the synchronised breath work.
